Big scary looking Interpol building facade
This article is part of our series exploring what exactly the Palau digital residency ID can be used for.
I made my seventeenth attempt to use the Palau digital residency ID (“the ID”) in February, 2024.
I tried to use the Palau ID to request an Interpol record access request from the Commission for the Control of Interpol’s Files (“CCF”)
Result: successful.
Explanation: I made an Interpol record access request.
As part of the request, on the fourth page of the application, the applicant is required to enclose an “identity document” as shown below.
Sample Interpol Record Request application requesting an identity document (Palau ID for the win)
For this requirement, I submitted a copy of the Palau digital residency ID and then sent off the record request via email to the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (“CCF”). Mercifully, the record request can be made by email at CCF@interpol.int.
Interpol took their sweet time in processing the request (over 5 months), but eventually they returned a response to the record request, without requesting an alternative form of ID. That makes this use-case experiment a success, and our third attempted background check request using the Palau ID, after Pennsylvania and France.
I’ll continue trying to use the ID, and report the results here on Malakouti Law.
