The French background check can be made online, but here's a picture of the Ministry of Justice, for your viewing pleasure
This article is part of our series exploring what exactly the Palau digital residency ID can be used for.
I made my 22nd attempt to use the Palau digital residency ID in June, 2024.
I tried to use the Palau ID to verify my identification for the purposes of requesting my own french background check (“extrait de casier judiciare”) from the French Ministry of Justice.
Result: Successful.
Explanation: When you request a french background check, you’re requested to upload an image of your photo ID, as shown in the image below. I uploaded a copy of the front and back of my Palau ID, and submitted my request.
[Note: A person might need to request this background check and submit it as part of a citizenship or residency application if the person is a) a french citizen or b) has ever lived in france.]

The French Ministry of Justice (the entity that administers the background checks) sent me an automatic email confirming my request was made. Two days later, I received an email containing the link to download my french background check. I experienced no friction whatsoever in using the Palau ID.
I’ll continue trying to use the ID for various useful online registrations and report the results here on Malakouti Law.
