This article is part of our series exploring what exactly the Palau digital residency ID can be used for.
I made my 23rd attempt to use the Palau digital residency ID (“the ID”) in October, 2024.
I tried to use the Palau ID to request my Georgia (GA) state background check from the Georgia state crime information center.
Result: successful.
Explanation: I made a Georgia state background check request using the Palau digital residency ID.
As part of the request, the third requirement listed is: “A copy of a government issued picture ID (driver’s license or passport)...”
Georgia state background check mail-request instructions
For this requirement, I included a paper copy of the front and back of the Palau digital residency ID and then sent off the request by mail, along with the other required documents to the Chamblee Police Department (PD) in Chamblee, Georgia. This is the agency in Georgia that handles these requests.
Chamblee PD returned a copy of the background check by mail within a week. At Malakouti Law, we consider this lightning fast for a mail request to any U.S. government agency. Fortunately, there was no mention at all of the form of government issued ID used.
This is the third background check we’ve been able to obtain using the Palau digital residency Id, after Pennsylvania and Interpol.
I’ll continue trying to use the ID, and report the results here on Malakouti Law.
